.       The archetype I choose was the caregiver, I felt that archetype is closely related to the kind of person I am and it interest me to find out more about the role of a caregiver. The characteristics of a caregiver are someone who is helpful, compassionate, and generous and also they can be co-dependent and tend to forget about their problems to help others. A caregiver is someone who is satisfied by helping others they usually inspire other people. The story I read in about Demeter the goddess of grain, she liked making crops grow, generous women and she was known for that. Her daughter Kore was kidnapped but she was living with her father it was said in the story that Demeter wouldn't let Kore live her own life; and can be controlling. This is another weakness of being a caregiver which is something I can relate to myself because I myself had trouble with letting people in my life learn certain things for themselves oppose me telling what they should do.

An example of a caregiver archetype would be a mom because moms are known to be nurturing and caring sometimes over protective of their child or children; always willing to help their children and guide them. Famous archetype caregivers are people like Princess Diana and mother Theresa they both are woman who made a difference in society in helping people in need. Mother Theresa is known for her work for helping the poor in places like India and Princess Diana also went to Africa to help those who have HIV/AIDS.

During this semester I've learned about more about symbolism and how when you want to understand poetry you have to sometime had to try a make sense of what you understand. There’s no wrong answer if you can support what you think the poem is about. Also I learned about literally terms which I remember learning before in school ; and now I have a better understanding of what the terms means such as alliteration, figurative language, denotation ,connotation ,and hyperbole.

One of the interesting things I found out about this English class would be that it was mostly a cyber-class. I never really had a class were mostly all the work is online it was different for me but I enjoy it. I also liked how instead of reading an ordinary book was doing not a typical topic which is supernatural. I enjoyed that as a student I can put my work up on a blog website for everyone to see and I can design it however the way l like.

Before I attended this class my expectation weren’t really high; I just wanted to be able to grow as a writer. I always enjoyed English so I just wanted to make sure that throughout my college experience I make sure I improved my writing. Also was hoping the class wasn’t as hard because ENG 101 was difficult for me because I didn’t enjoy the class. But I’m grateful that my teacher is nice and helpful and I’m able to feel like I can learn more and correct  my mistakes.

Marguerite Johnson was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri she goes by the name of Maya Angelou she’s a poet who’s currently alive at the age of eighty five years old. Marguerite is not only known for being a poet but she’s a singer, song writer, activist, and editor. She’s best known for her seven published autobiographies which were based on her childhood and adult life. Maya Angelou have worked with both important people Malcolm X and Martin Luther King she also in 1993 she read her poem at the White house for Bill Clinton she was the first poet to do so since 1961  The first one was published in 1969 which was called “I know why the caged birds songs”.  The poem I choose by Maya Angelou is called “Alone” the reason why I choose this poem because I feel it’s very real and true.  In the poem she talks about poverty and millionaires and it how it doesn’t matter because no one can make it in this world alone which I defiantly agree with.

In the poem Alone in the first stanza (1-3) “How to find my soul a home where water is not thirsty and bread loaf is not stone” this is symbolic action which can mean that Maya is saying people are in need of help which can be poverty. Bread isn’t stone but it may feel that way to someone who is possibly is in need of service, water isn’t thirsty but if you’re a person who homeless it may feel that way. The second stanza (1-6) “There are some millionaires With money they can't use their wives run round like banshees, their children sing the blues,They've got expensive doctors to cure their hearts of stone”. The symbolic action behind this would be that people who are considered to have money still have problems and need help like everyone else. The second stanza (1-6) ” Now if you listen closely, I'll tell you what I know, Storm clouds are gathering, The wind is gonna blow, The race of man is suffering, And I can hear the moan”. I believe the symbolic action is that life is going to take its course but people are still anguish and in pain and everyone knows but people need help they can’t do it alone.

I think the major symbols of the poem are “Alone, all alone, Nobody, but nobody Can make it out here alone”. Which basically mean being alone means being by yourself with no one around and can make it out here alone is saying you’re in this world but you can’t survive on your own. After each  stanza “alone, alone nobody but nobody can make it out here alone “ is always right after clearly reminding and stating that no matter what your situation is you need help you need guidance. That’s really my understanding of those words when you read them word by word and put them together. It comes back to what the overall message of the poem is.

After reading the poem over and over I can’t help but think the poem is about the world and how people are in need of help, they are suffering. The people who have money and the people who don’t we are equally the same because we all have this need for help. The poem talks about different situations but it still comes back to full circle basically saying the same thing. We all are the people of the world and we cannot live without each other we need each other in order to survive. It doesn't matter if your rich or poor the saying goes for everyone. I think this poem is all about humanity and the importance of it.Humanity effects everyone, I think Maya goal with this poem was to talk about but in the best way she could which through poetry.
