Option three: Write my own question and answer it

Question: Do you think fiction and supernatural is somewhat connected to reality and nonfiction?

During this semester we have talked about all types of supernatural which included vampires, witches, ghost, and supernatural creatures. In everything we learn there were hidden reasons behind it which was sometimes hard to figure out and understand, but it was always a reason. I do believe that supernatural is connected to the real world because when you have dreams which usually are weird or you can make sense it, sometimes it can be a sign. For example if I were to have a dream about me falling , to me that’s scary and I know is reality I’m not literally falling but maybe it means that I’m scared of doing something. The dream itself isn’t real but the sign from the dream can be.

Fiction and supernatural things help us be imaginative; you can create a whole world in your mind that’s not real it helps keep things interesting. That’s why super heroes are such a big deal to people but mostly kids. They have these powers than human always wish they can have people like to be creative and write about things that aren’t real. Vampires aren’t real but yet Twilight was known about everywhere everyone love the story about true love between a human and a vampire. It’s not real but it’s fascinating, the movie we watch called Stardust was mainly about witches and spells but I think there were more than one message of the film. I believe the director wanted people to show that people can change their personality through experiences and true love still exists.

Also in Caroline she seems unhappy at first in reality because her parents didn’t seem to give her much attention they just appear to always be busy. So somehow she ends up in this world with different parents. I think at first she like the idea of getting what she want and attention she was getting but she realizes it became scary and she just wanted to go back to reality. The importance of family and knowing what you have and appreciating it . I think the whole was sometimes the things you want the most aren’t really what’s good for you so I see that connection between reality and fiction. I think fiction stories and fairy tales teach you lessons without you even noticing, it’s important to realize those lessons because it help you in real life.

The last film we watched was Spirited away which I enjoyed and Chihiro which is the main character who is moving and when her and her parents reach their new town. While eating something they got turned into pigs and she was all of sudden in this new world. Chihiro was face with a lot of situations and it seem that the reason was because was afraid of starting a new life and new home. I think the point of the little scary things she was faced with was to show her never forget who she was and not to be afraid. I think this film connect to reality because it teaches you lesson which Chihiro obviously learn. She learn manners, being brave, and her trusting herself which; I think is important is important because sometimes you get lost and watching movies help you. So yes supernatural can connect with reality is so many ways it depends on the film, book, and poem. I think a supernatural thing start with something real and just turns in something totally different.

Research Assignment: Stardust

The movie “Stardust” matters to everyone because there are all types of archetypes, and these archetypes can be found in someone you know personality. The movie is relate able not so much of the magical part but the different types of archetypes you see in the characters.  An archetype is an original pattern which all things of the same kind are copied. It can be a model or first form; a prototype.
The movie takes place in a village called Wall one of the main characters is a young name Tristan who has the archetype of a lover and an innocent. He’s a lover because he loves the whole of idea of being in love that’s why he’s so blinded by what he thought was love but finds out it’s not true love. Tristan is a lover because he was willing for do anything for Victoria. He even snuck her out her house at night for a Picnic which is romantic but it didn't seem to impress Victoria. Tristan falls under the archetype of a lover cause he likes the idea of love and it seem to me that he doesn’t want to be without love. Which is a fear of a lover and it shows in the film he felt that way. When he realize Yvaine was going to the wall he try to get their as soon as possible because he didn’t want to lose Yvaine the girl he loved.
Tristan doesn’t just fall under one archetypes he actually has the personality of three, his attitude about everything changes from innocent to warrior but he always remain to be a Lover but just a better understanding of what love is. Tristan is also considered to be an innocent because he’s optimistic and naïve to the situation he’s in. He believes by giving Victoria the girl who he loved everything she wants will make her love him when in reality it doesn’t seem to care much for him. A part of being an innocent archetype is denial and Tristan was obviously in denial about being in love with Victoria. Being in denial is not letting you know what’s going on, when Tristan fell in front of Victoria and Humphrey he was embarrassed while Victoria laughed .Tristan was hurt but ignored the fact that he was.

Victoria is entertained by the idea that Tristan and Humphrey who is wealthy guy from the same town is fighting for her affection. Victoria seems to be concern with just her and her wants. She would fit the archetype of a seeker because they are self-obsessed and lack of consideration for others. Victoria was basing her decision on who she should marry by whether Tristan or Humphrey can offer her. A seeker problem is they are not willing to commit, Victoria was supposed to be dating Humphrey but she was willing to risk that and possibly pick Tristan.

Tristan uses his Babylon candle to take him were the fallen star was which it did. But Tristan wasn't the only one searching for the star three evil sister witches who wants the star to use it to make them self-younger. The oldest witch Lamia was on the hunt for the star alone, even though she had to share the star she secretly wanted it for just herself. Lamia archetype is a destroyer; she's willing to harm other people to get what she wants. A destroyer is someone who is a self-destructive behavior one of them is addictions. Lamia addiction is the continuation of wanting look young and she would do anything to get it. Lamia is also considered a seeker because when her sisters were killed she was glad to not have to share the star with them. Her only concern is for herself not her sisters and she's evil and Lamia archetype of a seeker is an active person on a quest to satisfy an inner hunger.

After finding the star who name was Yvaine who wasn't very fond of Tristan at first but Tristan saved her from the witch when she was being tricked to stay with her at a fake hotel. Yvaine has the archetype of the magician because she had these powers and the ability to change which she did. An archetype of a magician has a downfall of a disconnection with reality which is interesting because Yvaine had that same problem. She’s a star who overlooks the world but she didn’t truly understand what it was like to be on earth, interact with humans, and know what love is. The disconnection was by her being a star in the sky she didn’t understand humans she just talk about what she saw from being a star.

Also she's innocent because she doesn't know everything about how the world works she's finding out for herself. She saw how the world is but haven't experience it for herself especially the word love and its meaning. One of the characteristic of being an innocent archetype is their tend to be naïve and being naïve deals with lack of experience.

After escaping the witch at the fake hotel they use the Babylon candle to get away they both thought of home which left them in the clouds between earth and the stars. They were found by a flying ship with a captain name Captain Shakespeare who at first seem very mean and manly but behind closed doors he was perky and love trying on dresses. After finding these things out about the captain Yvaine and Tristan felt comfortable the captain gave them clothes. He taught Tristan how to sword fight and Yvaine how to dance he cared for them and gave them advice until they got back to land closer to the village of Wall. A caregiver is someone who invest all their time into the people they are helping it overshadows their own life. In the film the captain helps Tristan and Yvain but he kind of uses them as a distraction to his team on his ship so they wouldn’t figure out he was girly.

Captain Shakespeare is the archetype of a sage he has a lot of knowledge which helps both Yvaine and Tristan. Also he tells Tristan he think he’s in love with Yvaine , a sage are wise and usually know what’s best the captain uses he’s judgment from observation of being around them. When the boat finally landed on ground the captain told Tristan the love is sitting right in front of his eyes and he told him to think about.

Tristan realizes he's not in love with Victoria. He was in love with Yvaine and she felt the way same way. Tristan grew to become an archetype of a warrior something he figure out through he's experiences. Although he didn't kill anyone he was brave enough to conquer all the situations that came his way. Being a warrior is fighting for what matters which Tristan prove when he fought the witch Lamia and her evil witch sisters.

Yvaine becomes a Lover because she’s in love and now understands what real love is now that she met Tristan. Also a Lover is someone to scare to lose love and Yvaine show’s she was scared to lose Tristan when she realize he left her for Victoria she went after him which showed she was afraid to lose him.  Towards the ending of the movie Tristan reunited with his mom whom he never met he also defeats the wish Lamia and sisters with the help of Yvaine she uses her light to kill Lamia and Tristan is announce king and of course Yvaine as his queen.

The whole concept of archetypes can help define what kind of person you are and help you have of better understanding of you. I think the relation between archetype and literature is in most fairy tales or just characters in a book or movie you can find archetype someone you can relate to.   Or someone you admire you like, when you know who you are it shapes your writing and what you like and don’t like. Are you the innocent? Optimistic about everything not knowing certain things about life or are you the sage? Wise and knowing the truth satisfies you. Also archetypes allow you to see the pros and cons of being an archetype, knowing this can truly help you identify if you fit the characteristics of that archetype good and bad.

Yvaine has more than one archetype but if I had to choose one it would be the  the archetype of the Lover. When Yvaine first met Tristan didn't really understand the true meaning of love she just saw it but she didn't feel it. When Yvain realize she loved Tristan you can see the change in her she was more passionate when talking to Tristan when he was turned into a rat she express her love for him like she meant it. When she thought Tristan left her for Victoria she was devastated she didn't want to lose Tristan or be alone. Her love for Tristan was real which you can see in the ending because they got married and had children. You can also see the change in Yvaine from being not nearly interested in love and thinking of Tristan to be crazy to think he was in love. To her feeling all these emotions towards Tristan almost like he made her a believer because before she didn't think much of it.

Blog Entry 8 ( under revision)

The theme for the poem " Do not go Gentle into that Goodnight" I think the poem focus on life and death. Also how even if you feel your end is near you can fight to see another day. Don't let death doesn't consume you almost saying death doesn't have to be your only option. In the first stanza first sentence it says " Do not go gentle into that goodnight". Goodnight would symbolize death which is metaphor and do not gentle would be don't be kind when it comes to death. "Old age should burn and rare of closed of day". Which means just because your getting old doesn't mean you have to accept death. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light", rage means to be angry and violent of therefore that sentence would mean fight to stay alive to see another day.

In each stanza the author talks about four different groups of men. All the men are different but should fight for more time to be alive. They shouldn't give in to death no matter what they experiences are . One of symbolism I saw in the poem would be imagery. In the third stanza it says " Good men, the last wave ,crying how bright, their frail deeds might have dances in a green bay ,rage, rage against the dying  of the light". You can imagine the good men crying and the dying of night would can also symbolize the men giving up because the light is suppose to be life. Another imagery would be "rage, rage against the dying the light" you picture the men being furious and wanting to fight.

It seems as if the author is really speaking about his father. Who is most likely dying or sick and he doesn't want his father to give up. In the sixth stanza it says " and you, my father there on the sad height, curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray do not go gentle into the night"The author father is fighting death with his "fierce tears" and once again . The author doesn't want his father to give up.

The Archetype that I chose is the destroyer, out of all the archetypes this one confuses me the most still after reading about it I don't fully understand.  The story was Hun and his twin sons talk about death. I don't understand the overall meaning of the story but I know for sure it talks about death. The characteristics of a Destroyer is there to help people to let go and move on from loss of death. The Destroyer surprisingly does good to your life they re organizing things in their life and removing things that aren't good for you.

It kind of reminds me of the angel of death; Which is someone who comes to people who are dying and shows them their mistakes or their future if they don't fix their mistakes. I think of the movie click which about a guy who is always worried about work oppose to spending time with his family. The angel of death gives him a remote were he can remind of fast forward his life so he doesn't have to experience anything he can just go past it. But what he doesn't realize is he misses everything and regret of a lot of choices he makes the angel of death shows him hoping it will scare him into making things right therefore it can change his future which he saw and didn't like.

At first what confused me about the Destroyer is what is really about because when I read about I assume it's about letting go of the bad to reinvent your self now that you dealt with a loss. But it also talks about outlaws which at first came to my mind as a bad thing. But really it's about breaking rules to help other or risking your life to help others which I consider to be a good thing.

.       The archetype I choose was the caregiver, I felt that archetype is closely related to the kind of person I am and it interest me to find out more about the role of a caregiver. The characteristics of a caregiver are someone who is helpful, compassionate, and generous and also they can be co-dependent and tend to forget about their problems to help others. A caregiver is someone who is satisfied by helping others they usually inspire other people. The story I read in about Demeter the goddess of grain, she liked making crops grow, generous women and she was known for that. Her daughter Kore was kidnapped but she was living with her father it was said in the story that Demeter wouldn't let Kore live her own life; and can be controlling. This is another weakness of being a caregiver which is something I can relate to myself because I myself had trouble with letting people in my life learn certain things for themselves oppose me telling what they should do.

An example of a caregiver archetype would be a mom because moms are known to be nurturing and caring sometimes over protective of their child or children; always willing to help their children and guide them. Famous archetype caregivers are people like Princess Diana and mother Theresa they both are woman who made a difference in society in helping people in need. Mother Theresa is known for her work for helping the poor in places like India and Princess Diana also went to Africa to help those who have HIV/AIDS.
